Batangas-Mindoro Superbridge: A realization of Oriental Mindoro’s vision

The much awaited bridge in the Philippines will rise between Batangas and Mindoro and about to start. According to mindoropost.com, Governor Alfonso Umali Jr. said that it is a realization of his vision for Oriental Mindoro.

Indeed, this infrastructure will be one of the billion funds that will sustain and improve the socio- economic of our country and the whole region connected on it. It is cited before that Oriental Mindoro has its finest land in producing agricultural products that supports the need of the entire country.

According to Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Governor Umali is in close follow up from President Aquino for the 18 billion project of the 9 kilometer bridge that will connect Batangas to Verde Island going to Puerto Galera. The study has been started already on February 10, 2011.

Recently, last December 22 of the previous year reported by the PIA that the principal investors have been arrived already to support the mentioned project.

This good news is a trending topic now in social networking sites for many Mindoreños worldwide.

With this project, the main contribution will be on eco-tourism. Moreover, this will be one of the factors that will improve the vast array of transportation development including trade and commerce. This will be another more fun in the Philippines!

PIA Press Release

Superbridge investors lay down plans to local gov't

by Louie T. Cueto
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Jan. 2 (PIA) – The principal investors composed of engineers from China arrived here last Dec. 22 to negotiate with the provincial government on their plans and to finance arrangements on the construction of the Batangas-Mindoro Superb ridge project.
The Superbridge will connect Batangas to Isla Verde and connect the latter to Puerto Galera.
The investors met with Gov. Alfonso V. Umali, Jr. to discuss the details of the proposal and conducted a survey on the site.
This multi-billion project aims to facilitate better access to transport goods and services to Manila as well as other market destinations, which will eventually provide better business and livelihood opportunities to Mindoreños.
The project is a realization of the governor’s vision for Oriental Mindoro. According to Umali, in the past, he dreamt of concreting the national roads in the 2nd district which has later on materialized. Now he dreams of Mindoro-Batangas Superbridge which will soon be constructed. (LBR/ LTC /PIA-4B)

How a Congressman and provincial Governor waste tax money on a dumb idea and an iPad hoping to win an entry in the Guiness Book of World Records:
Umali Brothers' wet dream of a Pontoon Bridge across Verde Island Passage.

.................................

Image

He carried with him a digital presentation of how they both envision Oriental Mindoro in the near future: a progressive, green province filled with efficient livelihood programs for the poor and a crowd-favorite of the tourism sector. Add to that the proposed superbridge that will lie on top of the sea connecting Oriental Mindoro and Batangas for faster transportation and an airport.
If approved, this would be a breakthrough for several sectors like transportation, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture and communication that the Umalis will be forever known for. The super bridge will also be a record-breaker in the Guiness Book of World Records and a haven of protected marine biodiversity.
“It will happen (because) it can only happen now,” Cong. Rey asserted. “Oriental Mindoro is a gem waiting to be cut and polished.”

Any additional info on the Umali Superbridge please post to this thread.
These guys are wasting resources without the benefit of a prefeasability study,
proposing laws in Congress, engaging DPWH planners, inviting China to
do some more Build-Operate-Transfer (think NorthRail or NBN ZTE),
and releasing this raw nonsense to the press.
This bullshit has to be stopped !!! lol7

Cebu-Bohol Super-Bridge the model for Umali's brainchild of a Mindoro-Batangas Super-Bridge ??

The Visayan Super-Bridge:
http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/business ... ort-168398

The Cebu-Bohol bridge is 24 km over several islands, the ocean depth is mostly under 30 meters deep and the largest distance coast to coast is about 5 km.
The 15 km Mindoro-Batangas bridge crossing over Isla Verde, the ocean depth is up to 400 m and largest distance coast to coast is about 7 km. (Ancient also the unrealized dream of a Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge linking Iloilo and Bacolod -- about 11km over quite shallow waters < 10 meters deep)

Both bridges are technically and commercially impossible (Ninoy reportedly says "too ambitious").

The order of the day for politicians is to dream up wacko ideas and find someone to sponsor a feasibility study from which they then could skim some benefits like tourist revenue from extra China delegations, permit fees to explore, reciprocal visits, dinner invites, bribes etc.pp... These Umali and Dolor types should be permanently banned from public office.

Here some reader comments on the Mindoro Super-Bridge "news".

Stop The Corruption
Utter madness. Puerto Galera’s reefs are one of the jewels of The Philippines. Just the foundations of such a bridge would destroy the reefs and the surrounding environment forever. Tourism would vanish. There isn’t even a proper road on Mindoro to join a bridge to! There are far more worthy projects to spend money on than this politicking nonsense.

Debbie Barbar
Mindoro is a major food basket? Yes, they all eat here!!! Dream on guys, there is no way they are going to build a bridge when they can’t even lay an electric cable between Batangas and Mindoro!!

just love this topic. finally something to laugh about again! a super bridge planed by super men. lol7 crlol lol10 hp64 :yahoo

just to be absolutely certain, i did consult google earth again. so there is no doubt, Sinandigan, fasten your seat belts, whole Mindoro's traffic is coming your way. From there all the trucks delivering all that food from the baskets of Mindoro and vis versa will pass the one way lain we have from Sabang to town. AND the one way line THROUGH town. but i guess nothing to worry, since the traffic lights are already in place and the waste water is planed for the million truck drivers passing the island

this is about the worst news article i ever read. every line shouts of bull shit! But lets concentrate on : "The indigenous people are also well protected and loved by the Umalis. “We want to provide livelihood, education and health programs for our Mangyan community through our convergence program,” Rey said.

PLEASE, show us just ONE of the programs you proclaim. and i show you how Mangyans in the south are deprived of their livelihoods (their local markets are being closed, since it does not "benefit" their near by city) plus they are being threatened into selling their land to their Mayor.

sorry, got off the track of the main subject , the super bridge...... :heat :search :swoon

OK what can i say, first i thought it is just a first of april joke ,but than i realized it is only january,so this is not a joke it all. Why ? Umali better build a suspension bridge he knows all about that!!!

Be realistic and build an proper airfield so CEBU PACIFIC can fly manila -mindoro daily ,and you will see the business and tourisme will pick up in no time it will cost just a fraction off the 18 billion peso.

Umali-Dolor Superbridge: Proof of clueless leadership

Instead of bashing the airheads that received too many votes,
here a look at what professionals have in mind for Mindoro:

Grid Corp is planning a submarine power cable linking Mindoro to the Luzon power grid.
Capacity: 300 MW, length under water 25km, total cost around 11,000,000,000 (bio) pesos
It's not ERC-approved but on the drawing board none-the-less. Completion 2020?

I KNEW IT!!!

Those Chinese bastards aren't really interested in putting up that superbridge just because of an easy access for
Mindoro's local produce.
They will invest here because of the GOLD!!!
They wanted to sound subtle and just say for NICKEL MINING, but every MORON know that where there is NICKEL,
there is always GOLD!

The UMALI Brother's know this, wiseman MD is is drooling over this, they know that if the CHINESE put up the bridge,
they will also EXPLORE MINDORO"S GOLD, and MONEY will flow endlessly on the pockets of our
beloved CORRUPT OFFICIALS.

FOOD BASKET MY ASS!!!
SINO ANG GAGAGUHIN NYO MGA H!ND0T!!!!

It is not about tourism, it is not about the movement of Mindoro's local produce or foodstuff,
It is all about the easy access of GOLD that they will MINE on MINDORO's MOUNTAINS.

Belated new year greetings engrben.

Since I am a senior citizen, I might be over the age limit to be a member. :D

BTW, my son is a member of BP @ facebook and he informed me that a certain kidd kalaws is a member as of today; he/she(?) has posted links to SB journals and this forum and whatever opinions he has expressed are for the next generation Puerto Galerans to respond to.

I have also read the replies of BP members to the issues brought out by kidd kalaws and can say that the next generation BP members have the intelligence and foresight to understand the issues/problems facing the town they will all eventually inherit.

More power to Batangpuerto @ Facebook.

I was reading BatangPuerto and I really thought it was you. But in fairness, he used kidd kalaws and not kiddo kalaw which would really be you.

Marami ka na fans sa BatangPuerto and marami senior citizen na member doon. I think it would be great if the real Kiddo Kalaw will be a member of BatangPuerto.

kidd kalaws brought issues that were discussed here into that facebook group and i can see many reactions. I hope majickshrum and all the active members should join that group. I think some members are already members of that group like kidd kalaws, right? Really got us going. hp64 hp64 hp64 hp64 hp64

I was hoping they will use all the old passenger bancas to create this floating bridge ,but last week MARINA decided to lift the ban on registration of wooden vessels ,can you believe it lucky enough for some time now no major accidents and lives who got lost ,and strait away all back to the situation before, anyway how can you build this banca's since we have a total ban on timber logging ???? So sad we just have to wait for the next BIG incident.

Yeah, the Superbridge is dead, long live the floating coffins...

Anyways here the "stringent specifictions" which include

- steering house with view of sea way
- engine with secondary starting system
- watertight bulkheads

http://www.marina.gov.ph/contents/mp/MP ... hment2.pdf

No PG outrigger ferry would comply as of today, but once marinated
[= euphemism for "MARINA officials giving license to operate in exchange for bribes" ]
nobody will be responsible for the next wooden coffin on the seabed.

My Response to Ana Malto’s (Rey Umali’s cousin)Open Letter to Me.

After defeating Ana Malto, the cousin of Rey Umali, in our night long debate, she posted an open letter addressed to me and my brother, Edsel, regarding my alleged insults to the congressman. She cowardly addressed my intellectual and factual questions by defending his cousin. First, if her comprehension was right, I did not associate the GDP and GNP, to Rey Umali's dismal performance for the welfare of Mansalenos (Ana claimed he implemented many programs in Mindoro). GDP and GNP of one country have nothing to do with Rey Umali. The economic indicators are the market value of all products and services produced in one year by labor and property supplied by the residents of a country. Her argument was articulately written but lacks substance. Last year, I had week long conversation with “RU” about my plan to upgrade the education in our 5th class municipality of Mansalay in Oriental Mindoro. I asked him if he could provide personal computers and learning facilities to Mansalay high schools. I explained how I struggled in college, when I was studying engineering in UP, to learn my first programming class. He told me that he had other plans like knowledge channel and the ambitious cyber education to solve the classroom congestion. I was wondering whether classroom congestion is an issue in Southern Mindoro. He said that cybereducation is a holistic solution that would give quality education to Southern Mindoro high schools. He promised me that he would send me the architecture of cloud computing powered cybered after one week. After one week, I waited for another week and I never got a response from him. I posted several messages in his facebook wall but he never replied. That’s when I initiated my social media rants. I criticized him for not showing the “palabra de honor” and for not living up yellow armies political slogan “ang taumbayan ang boss namin”. How could the ambitious online learning tool make Mindorenos academically competent? In the United States, companies hire online MBA grads to fill up vacant staff position for clerical jobs. Can you imagine if you apply this educational learning facility in Southern Mindoro high schools? What will happen to the quality of our high school graduates? Bibihira na nga tayo makapasok ng UP, Ateneo at DLSU, gagawin pa nyang online ang edukasyon. This is "RU"'s holistic solution not just to classroom congestion but also making Southern Mindorenos academically competent! This is the reason why I have no admiration to the congressman sporting the look of "Lolong". Is this the kind of education he learned from San Beda College of Law and economics from Ateneo? - he cant accurately do a mental calculation of the ballpark estimate of 28 B dollars online learning cybered vs classroom rehabilitation? My catch 22 question is how many classrooms can you build from $28 billion? Based on my ballpark estimate, the annuity and the net present value (NPV) of P28 B dollars is more than enough to build state of the art classrooms and maintain the more effective interactive traditional teaching. During my conversation last night with Jeffrey Carr, the author of the famous book Inside Cyber Warfare, the architecture of cloud computing is unimaginable in the place like Southern Mindoro based on his Department of National Defense experience in Afghanistan. I am not sure how knowledgeable RU with IT term "cloud computing". He was like a false prophet evangelizing Mansalay OFW in Italy last year about the cloud computing. Italy based OFW's are excited about Umali's project about application of cloud computing to cybereducation. They thought Umali was the messiah who came from heaven to evangelize them with new religious dogma. At the end of the day - all of those promises are still promises. The reason I did not apply my negotiation skills about Sun Tzu's Art of War to Umali is his way of brainwashing and fooling those Mansalay OFWs based in Italy. One of the Sun Tzu's tenets in his Art of War - "What is the difference between victorious and defeated warriors- Victorious warriors win first and then go to war while defeated warriors go to war first and seek to win". Umali's style is not a victiorious warrior and he is not also qualified to become victorious general. Umali does not know how to lead his people and be victorious according to academic pursuit. The reason is - he is scared to educate Mindorenos and be realized someday that it’s a mistake. Educating Mindorenos with high quality education is a nightmare to politicians holding the dynasty. Highly educated people drove the social unrest around the world from Libya, Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries to Occupy Wall Street. Education creates a bidirectional power dominance between the oppressors and their people. Umali does not like the idea. Also, he wants to repeat his dirty antics of bribing several barangay captains with cheap multicabs to propel his campaign in remote areas like Mansalay. One of my friends’ family in Mansalay received 40,000 pesos from Rey Umali’s campaign manager.

One of the challenges of Ana Malto to me is to show the evidence of my accusations in the proper venue. What proper venue she's talking about!? Is this the court where graft case of Alfonso Umali got shelved? Ang kailangan sa mga pulitikong nagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan ay kinukulong, hindi lang dapat sinususpindi. Ana Malto has the nerve of challenging me to come home and show my proof because in the judiciary system that we have in the Philippines, it normally takes one decade to prosecute the abusive politicians. She also challenged me to run for congressional election. I just want to tell her that not all people talking about politics have political aspiration. Besides, I am not like Umali, he devoted his entire career in milking the government. In the history of humankind, many non political figures spoke about political and social issues. Albert Einstein openly lambasted political figures that are proponents of Manhattan Project and persecution of Jews during the Holocaust. And according to his bio book by Walter Isaacson, he disrespectfully uttered words against German dictator Adolf Hitler.

The problem with the politician like Umali and his minions is they don’t know how to calculate the economics of the project. According TO NEDA rule, the 15% rate of return is required in order to get the approval of the project under BOT scheme. Mathematically speaking, it is F = P (1+r) raised to n where r = rate of return and n = paying cycle, F =future amount and P = present worth.

She also mentioned the plans of Alfonso Umali to build the bridge linking Mindoro to Luzon Island. Does Ana Malto know how to make a feasibility study to evaluate the financial and economic viability of the bridge to justify the economic activity in Mindoro province is enough to pay the bridge in 25 years with ROR of 15%? Guys 4 billion dollars is a helluva lot of money and it can even move the economy of the New York in one month. Media driven politics without mathematical and scientific foundation is killing this nation. Does Ana Malto know the implication of Semirara fault line to the cost of the project which translates to higher toll fee? Does Ana Malto know the concept of resonance which caused the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State? That’s the problem with Ana Malto – she is trying to show case her journalistic skills without substantiating her arguments. Her arguments are purely personal. She is trying to convince the reader that I hit Rey Umali below the belt but her only purpose is to protect the political career of the congressman. I thought Umali took management courses in University of Southern California and used to work for NEDA in the 80’s. During my conversation with him through skype, I can say that he has no sound knowledge of economics. I was wondering if he left all his knowledge about economy at NEDA office. Most of my college classmates in NEDA are entitled to receive scholarship grant to study abroad. I assume that Umali received his grant from this institution. Can you imagine guys if you are the son of the governor/ex-governor in the early 80’s? I think you would have gotten all the edge of getting the position in the government regardless of your academic performance and qualification. How did I come up with the idea that RU is not really good? Simple - from my skype conversation with him. Also, when I posted the video of his interpellation in the Congress, I saw his facial expression and mannerism of lack of confidence. His speech had lots of stammers (bulol) and he committed many blunders. Guys, this is just an interpellation! How much more if the debate is all about exchanging philosophical ideas and bounded by rules of debate and symbolic logic? How can Umali’s “intellectual capacity” withstand the onslaught of the likes of Edcel Lagman? Besides, When Ana Malto asked me if I was the one who deleted the video, it gave me an idea that Rey Umali deleted his own video. If he is proud enough of his Corona impeachment interpellation, why did he delete it?

Again, Ana Malto sent me a friendly message before posting her open letter, “hi gareth , just to let u know I posted an open letter for you and your brother. Sensya na ha, tulad ng sinabi ko, may kanya kanya tayong obligasyon at stand na kailangan piliin. TY. best wishes”

I felt sorry for her because my drive to educate the Mansalay is worthier and bigger responsibility than her personal agenda – to protect her clan, to protect Rey Umali and to protect Alfonso Umali.

I posted it here because Rey Umali unfriend (deleted) me in his FB. I also posted this one to several Mindoro facebook pages. Ana Malto is like a poodle barking on the caged Golden Retriver – means she posted her open letter when Rey Umali already unfriended me so that I could not be able to post my rebuttal.

Ana, dont be flattered with your friends praise. I found no Rizalness in your letter because Rizal was motivated with his patriotism and not love of his family. Simon (Crisostomo Ibarra)'s subterfuge action as filibustero and his violent encouragement for people to revolt manifested that Rizal's way was even less decent than mine.
